Day Overview: And so month number 2 kicks off in Omaha – the city with the largest number of millionaires and restaurants per capita in the US! I suppose they do have to go hand in hand.

If you’re in the area, come by to say hi and check out the bike at group at Godfather’s Pizza at 2117 S. 67th Street tomorrow at 5.30 pm. Then I’ll be speaking about 7 pm at the wheelbuilding class at the Community Bike Shop at 525 N. 33rd Street.

Day Overview: After a fantastic stay in Des Moines with Susan and Todd – one of the best Airbnb hosts I’ve yet to meet – it looks like stops in the next few days in Nebraska will be composed primarily of motels. As some brief Google Map research has shown, there’s not a lot of opportunity to be picky here –frequently there is just a single motel for miles and miles.

Fortunately, some of the motels seem to sympathize with this traveler’s predicament and approach the issue rather philosophically, such as one I may stay in next week – the It’ll Do Motel in Atwood, KS. Hey, they’ve got free WiFi! Continue reading →

Day Overview: Long, but pleasant day on the road today. It was surprising to see that some of the smaller county highways in Iowa unexpectedly turned into gravel or dirt.

After the 300+ mile trail from Washington to Pittsburgh, this was the first time I’ve encountered that here. While bumpy, fortunately, it didn’t really slow down the progress too much. Continue reading →
