Day # 23
Miles Covered Today: 81
Hours on The Road: 7:45 (including breaks)
Miles Traveled Since Beginning: 1,327
Where We Are: Madison, WI (route completed so far is shown above)
Day Overview: Long-distance cycling trips are unpredictable.
We can plan and prepare for them, but inevitably things come up that you haven’t expected and ones that can affect the most diligent preparations.
We’ve reached a situation like that today. Regrettably, Anna had a personal medical issue that will require her to take a temporary break from cycling to recover.
However, as the tour is on a strict schedule with events planned and commitments made throughout the remaining time, the progress does need to go on.
With that in mind, the decision was made for me to continue our progress forward as planned. Anna will reconnect with me in a few days as soon as she is fully recovered. We’ll aim for Des Moines as the rendezvous point, but we’ll have to play it by the ear over the next few days. Luckily, she has friends who live a bit outside of Madison that she will be able to stay with during this period.
We certainly look forward to continuing our tour together shortly, but for the time being, we’ll make do with the circumstances that have presented themselves and adjust as needed.
p.s. On a bright side, the wallet lost a few days ago was recovered! It was found and picked up by a gentleman shortly after it was dropped, who took the trouble to find our contact information and reach out to us the next day, so he can mail it! And, as we later discovered, he has 3 daughters – all named Anna! Must be fate. Thank you, Rolando C. – if you’re reading this.
Also, special thanks to our Airbnb hosts last night in Milwaukee, WI, Mike and Laurie, for their hospitality and flexibility and letting us stay an extra night while we were figuring out our plan of action!
Next Scheduled Event: Madison, WI on April 30th at 12.00pm at University of Madison. RSVP here or see full schedule of future stops.

Dear Boris and Anna, Thank you for blogging your progress and impressions. Sorry to hear about the medical situation, but wish Anna a speedy recovery. Good on both of you for this amazing journey. Keep up the good work. Ken.
Thank you, Ken! Appreciate the comments!
Boris
Боренька, не знаю чему больше удивляться – возвращению портмане или трём дочкам с одним именем!!!
Пусть Аня выздоравливает поскорей!!!
take care Anna – hoping you have a speedy recovery. Glad that you were able to take a few days to heal. Looking forward to seeing you in Davis, CA.
Good luck with progress on you own, Boris. Just keep watching that white line…
Anna, get better soon. I’m guessing you’re pretty disappointed, but just take this time to stop and be well.
Best wishes from Ann Arbor.
Boris, great news on the wallet recovery. But how could he have three daughters with the same name? I’m reminded of the old Bob Newhart show where there were the two mountain men with the same name Darryl. Did Rolando explain?
And how is Anna going to get to Des Moines with the Evelo?
I saw some of the RelayRides crew last night at the bowling alley / pizza place in Davis Square. They were having a community meeting. So much of RelayRides has changed since we were there!
Good luck with your journey. What’s the final destination point, again?
Des
@ Ella – I’m doing my best to heal quickly!
@ Eileen – Thanks for sending warm wishes my way. I’m very much looking forward to seeing you in Davis as well!
@ Michelle – It’s a little disappointing, but these things happen and I’m glad I took some time to rest. I’m starting to feel better, so hopefully within a few more days I’ll be healed and ready to get back on the road!
@ Des – I couldn’t believe it either when Rolando informed me all three daughters were named Anna. The names consist of two names actually, like Ana Maria, Ana Elizabeth, etc. Myself and my evelo will get to Des Moines via bus. The final destination will be San Francisco – estimated arrival date is June 20th!
Hi Anna,
I got a chuckle out of Ella’s comment, because she echoed my own thoughts. Sounds a lot more playful in Russian though. Seriously, get well soon. You can’t leave Boris out there all by himself.
Lowell
just sayin’ “hi”
